Tom Holland Signed a 6-Picture Deal to Play Spider-Man; Zendaya's Character is “Not” a Love Interest!

Tom Holland and Zendaya talk about Spider-Man: Homecoming

After making his debut as Spider-Man in this year's biggest superhero blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland is set to return next year with his character's standalone movie. But what's next for him beyond Spider-Man: Homecoming? We’re not sure about that, but we have learned how many movies the 20-year-old actor has in his contract with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to play Spider-Man.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Holland revealed that he initially signed a six-picture deal with the studios to play the fan-favorite superhero. He says:

They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies, though. I do know I have three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies contracted.

This means that Marvel and Sony intend to make a trilogy with Holland's Spider-Man, and they also want to use him in two other movies. Are those two Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4? Most probably, yes!

During the interview, the British actor also reveals that there is a moment in Spider-Man: Homecoming where his character, Peter Parker, dances. While he hopes the audience will find it "funny", he doesn't think it's "good dancing".

Holland also suggests that the biggest difference between his Spider-Man and the previous incarnations is "youth…and…innocence". He explains:

You’ve seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier. Now it’s time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that’s almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It’s all done kind of by accident.

The Hollywood Reporter also sat down with Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Zendaya. While her character's name has been announced to be Michelle, reports have suggested that she’ll actually play Mary Jane Watson.

While the 20-year-old actress didn't confirm whether she is playing the character or not in the Jon Watts' flick, she did make it clear that she isn't happy with the negative response to the notion of an African-American Mary Jane Watson:

But of course there’s going to be outrage over that, because for some reason some people just aren’t ready. I’m like, “I don’t know what America you live in, but from what I see when I walk outside my streets of New York right now, I see lots of diversity and I see the real world and it’s beautiful, and that’s what should be reflected and that’s what is reflected so you’re just going to have to get over it.

When asked whether her character is a love interest for Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya responded:

No [laughs]. My character is not romantic. My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual, and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like “My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.” So she comes off very weird.

Despite that, the actress considers her character to be "very cool", as she is "deep…and…always thinking about something…or…reading". She also enjoys not having to do much for hair and makeup to portray the character.
