All it took for Thor: Ragnarok to go from being one of the year’s most meh releases to one of the most anticipated was the release of a single trailer. The first footage from the movie hit all the right spots, blending comedy and action like we haven’t seen in previous Thor movies. We have Taika Waititi to thank for this. After all, the hype surrounding this movie is even bigger than the hype for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.
We’ve met almost all of the movie’s main players, with the exception of one or two, most notably Odin and maybe Surtur.
Director Taika Waititi has said that other comic book characters will also be introduced. The first is Korg, who is a Kronan, a species that cameoed in Thor: The Dark World:

His name is Korg, like the piano, and he's a Kronan! I mean, I know you've seen (Thor) Dark World. At the beginning of Dark World, there's a Kronan there. This is kind of a relation to that guy. He's not as tall. He's sort of about eight feet tall, and he's um, made of rocks. He's one of the creatures featured in the Planet Hulk storyline, along with another character called Miek, who is also in the film. So we're borrowing those from their storyline and putting them in the arena, the Contest of Champions, that the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) runs on the planet Sakaar, which the Hulk is the main champion.
Taika Waititi said that Korg is one of the first (and very few) characters to befriend Thor on Sakaar and become his ally. Furthermore, the director said that Korg is huge and heavy, but that he also has a light soul and is very loveable.
And, as usual, Waititi will have a role in Thor: Ragnarok - as Korg!
The second character is, of course, Miek:
This other character here is Miek. He's from the comics, as well. He's sort of like an insectoid. He sort of has a cool exoskeleton with knife hands. He's basically sort of a larva-shaped thing. He controls the exoskeleton with these controls and stuff. He's way more graceful than Korg. Much more efficient, and Miek does not talk. (via Screen Rant)

Waititi also revealed how Thor meets Korg and Miek. Apparently, they wanted to start a revolution against the Grandmaster (who is replacing the Red King from the comics), but they didn't print enough pamphlets.
It's safe to say that this is a Taika Waititi film that has little to nothing in common style-wise with the previous Thor movies.
