The Girlfriends of Peter Parker - Who Will Join Him in Homecoming?

Peter Parker - one lucky guy

Over the course of years, Peter Parker has had quite a few girlfriends. Quite understandable, given his more than five decade-long history. At one time he even got to marry one of them - although she did leave him, being unable to cope with the responsibilities of being a superhero's wife.

Marriage is irrelevant in Spider-Man: Homecoming, because Peter Parker will be just a teenager. However, this doesn't mean that he won't have his eye on a special someone. And there are already plenty of rumors suggesting who that special girlfriend is.

But this isn't exactly the point of this list. Instead, I'll try to name the most interesting relationships the superhero has had, while also saying which ones have the most chances of being adapted to the big screen. So, without further ado, check it out!

Michelle Gonzales

Michelle Gonzales in a nutshell. (Comic Vine)

When Zendaya was cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the name of her character was also revealed. Thus, she is said to portray a teen named Michelle. And this obviously has led many to believe that she will be Michelle Gonzales, one of the flames of Peter Parker. But is she really?

No, she isn't. But the story is interesting, nonetheless, and it also featured the Chameleon, one of the villains I'd like to see on the big screen. Thus, Michelle is just one of Peter Parker's roommates. Nothing more exists between them than just a weird kind of sexual tension.

Could Michelle be Peter Parker's love interest in Homecoming? It is least likely. However, the addition of this character sure complicates things a bit for the superhero. But, at the same time, it does open quite a few opportunities.

Marvel/Disney should just be comfortable with adapting what is – basically, a rape scene – to the big screen. Obviously, in a sequel. Since the studios cannot condone hinting at sexual relationships between teens"¦Right?

Felicia Hardy

Felicia Hardy appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as the assistant of Harry Osborn. However, she had a minor role, being there just to push the (not so amazing) plot forward.

So Marvel can now try to do justice to this character. And that is because Felicia Hardy is also one of the better known villains of Spider-Man. And their relationship is very interesting, since she loves Spider-Man, but feels no attraction to Peter Parker.

Furthermore, her character is a rather tragic one, with a backstory that includes (once again on this list) rape. This pushes her to learn how to defend herself, eventually becoming a cat burglar, just like her father.

Even if they don't see eye to eye, their dynamic doesn't actually change - although there is no chance for them to form an actual couple. Basically, they are teenagers - and this is what Spider-Man: Homecoming needs. However, I don't really see that happening so soon. Maybe in the sequels"¦

Silver Sable

Silver Sable (Marvel Wikia)

Silver Sable is an anti-hero and, whenever she works with Peter Parker, she is also Spider-Man's boss. Tell me that doesn't sound interesting, even if there is a hint of sexual harassment in there. Don't get me wrong, the sexual tension comes from both of them. But since she is the boss"¦

Basically, Silver Sable is like James Bond and Spider-Man is like a Bond girl. And that is why I don't believe this would work this time around. Maybe in the Homecoming sequels"¦

Obviously, I'd like to see Sable on the big screen. Otherwise, I wouldn't have mentioned her. Her relationship with Parker is intense and, even if not taken to the next level, it would still say something about Spider-Man. Namely, that even if he flirts, he doesn't want to cheat.

Betty Brant

Betty Brant is another flame of Peter Parker who is eventually extinguished by his superhero responsibilities. Older than he is, she worked as a secretary at the Daily Bugle, and wanted a normal man as her partner. Unfortunately for her, she saw just Peter Parker, without knowing at first that he is secretly Spider-Man.

And they actually dated. Peter Parker actually named her as his first true love.

They separated after she found out. And they did so not just because Peter wasn't the regular guy she was searching for. They did so because her brother was a casualty in one of Spider-Man's battles with Doc Ock.

Betty Brant appeared in the Sam Raimi films and it was obvious that she fancied Peter Parker. It didn't go further than that. So are there any chances for this relationship to develop in the MCU? Not likely, given Parker's age in this shared universe.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing Betty Brant as a supporting character once again. It would be great fan service if that happens.

Liz Allan

I am almost certain Liz Allan will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Why? Because she was the most popular girl in high-school when Parker was a teenager. And, since Homecoming will also feature a homecoming dance, it will need a queen.

This being said, and most obviously, Parker felt an attraction towards her. However, she was dating Flash Thompson. And then, when she dumped the jock and gave the nerd a chance, Peter missed date after date because of his Spider-Man responsibilities.

So it didn't work out. Instead, she eventually married Harry Osborn.

As said, I actually believe that she will appear in Homecoming. And I actually believe that Peter Parker will be attracted to her. However, I truly hope that Marvel/Disney won't go in the same direction as many movies do and that she won't fall for the nerdy guy.

Silk

It's all genetics here. Basically, Silk is the only one with whom Spider-Man can actually be, simply because they both got their powers in the same way, from the same spider. And if the rumors are true and we get a Spider-Man universe, then Silk will be in it.

So I do hope that Silk is featured and that her primal connection to Peter Parker will be featured. However, I doubt that this will happen during Homecoming. Instead, I believe it will happen much later on, when the MCU will have already passed the Infinity War threshold.

Aren't you interested in seeing such a relationship, too? These two complement each other and, basically, they are made from the same clay. What could go wrong?

Carlie Cooper

Carlie Cooper is, essentially, the alternative to one of Peter Parker's most well-known girlfriends. And I mean that literally, since his relationship with MJ came to a halt out of nowhere (not literally, of course).

An NYPD detective, Carlie Cooper immediately fell for Peter Parker. And Peter fell for her. And it was amazing for Spider-Man as well, since she was an invaluable source of information. However, things began falling apart when she started to suspect Peter's secret identity. And when she finally realized, she left him and the city.

This won't happen. However, it still sounds interesting to me. And that is because it would show that Peter Parker can build connections and he can make the most of them. Essentially, if Carlie Cooper does appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it would be great fan-service. As far as I am concerned, of course.

Did I mention that Carlie was a Spider-Man fan? No I didn't. And the fact that she'd break up with Parker despite that makes her presence even more appealing.

Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy has actually appeared in both of the Spider-Man franchises so far. So I am not too interested in seeing her so soon. However, when Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) was cast, the rumor began to spread.

Gwen's relationship with Peter Parker/Spider-Man is one of the most interesting in the comics. And, for most of the time, it was also the best thing about the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. And I actually believe that Emma Stone was perfectly cast.

Does it matter what I believe? Nope. But I'd rather see any other female character on this list rather than seeing Gwen Stacy as a love interest so soon.

Gwen Stacy (Rebloggy)

Even more, her death scene from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the best in the entire flick. I know that Marvel had no doing in that. But I do hope they aren't so keen on resurrecting the character so soon.

Mary Jane Watson

MJ and Peter (What Would Spider Do)

MJ and Peter (What Would Spider Do)

Angourie Rice can dye her hair. It worked with Kirsten Dunst in the original Spider-Man series, so it can work again. And if I were to choose between this character and Gwen Stacy, it is pretty obvious what choice I would make.

I'd rather see any other of the characters on this list as love interests for Peter Parker. However, Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy are still the best known girlfriends of the web crawler. Furthermore, he was even married to MJ - and I guess Marvel isn't going to throw that away so easily, especially if they’re planning to have Spider-Man in the MCU for a long time.

This being said, there’s also been a script leaked online for Spider-Man: Homecoming. In it, Mary Jane Watson doesn't appear until the end, when she was revealed to be the date arranged by Aunt May for the homecoming dance. Was it for real? Or was that leaked script just fan-fiction?

I guess we’ll find out in time.

What do you think? Which of these characters should be introduced as Spider-Man's crush? Or did you have others in mind?
