The Flash 's Identity, According To Phil Lord

The Flash

The Flash hits theaters March 23rd, 2018. It's the first solo movie of Ezra Miller's version of DC's Scarlet Speedster.

Chances are this particular incarnation of The Flash will also show up in Dawn of Justice (2016) and, who knows, perhaps in Justice League Part One (2017).

The obvious question here is: who will The Flash be? Will DC keep his identity and grace the big screen with a new version of Barry Allen - well, new if compared with Grant Gustin's Barry Allen, as seen on TV?

Or will they pick another Crimson Comet for the cinematic universe? Hit the jump to see Phil Lord's answer!

Phil Lord believes The Flash is Barry Allen

Hippojuice sat with Phil Lord – the yet to be confirmed scribe of The Flash – and here's what he had to say about this topic:

"We're trying to break a story. It's interesting, because there's a really popular TV show out there, and we're trying to carve out space for the movie that's apart from that. I think we're doing alright".

And here comes the revelation!

"I believe [our Flash] is going to be Barry Allen. "¦ It's going to be its own [thing, apart from the TV show] "” we're more trying to stick with the cinematic universe"¦ it really is its own thing, and kind of a stand-alone movie".

And then there comes this most welcomed reassurance: "We're just trying to think of the best story. I think you guys will like it, it's kind of a different take on superhero stuff".

But that's not all. Phil Lord also talked about his venture for Sony: a Spider-Man animated film.

"Juggling superheroes" with colleague Christopher Miller

No much detail is given, but here the man speak:

"We're sort of juggling superheroes with the color red in them, that's all we do. [laughter] We're trying not to confuse their powers or anything, but it does get tricky. But it's the same thing, is there a way to do one of these movies in a new way? That's the exciting thing about it being animated, is it opens up a lot of different possibilities".

And a final thought on both this project and The Flash:

"Chris and I like to carve out spaces where people will let us do what we want. So much of our careers are like "˜oh, no one will bother us while we try to make a 21 Jump Street movie, because it's such a crazy idea, no one's going to know what to do with it'".

"So we're doing these things kind of like that. They're part of these huge franchises, but kind of are off a little bit to the side, and that gives us a lot of creative freedom, and that's the thing we love. Hopefully we won't waste that!".

There you have it! Phil Lord encourages us to believe Barry Allen is the identity of The Flash they intend to bring on the big screen. Is that good news for you? Have your say below! And stay tuned, we’ll bring you the hottest scoop on all things DC!
