Marvel’s Echo Casts Charlie Cox And Vincent D’Onofrio As Daredevil & Kingpin

Marvel’s Echo series just got a whole lot more interesting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have been cast in the upcoming series for Disney+. This means that both Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin are going to be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe once more. Plus, another former Defender may be coming back to the fold as well.

Echo is serving as a spin-off of last year’s Hawkeye series. It will star Alaqua Cox, who played Maya Lopez on that show. The character has major ties to both Kingpin and Daredevil in the comics. As such, this casting makes a great deal of sense. Not to mention that Kingpin was revealed as the big bad of Hawkeye in its final episodes. Though there is the matter of him being shot at the end that needs to be dealt with. But, apparently, he lives on.

Meanwhile, we last saw Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The cameo was brief, but it formally brought Dardevil into the MCU after the Netflix shows were call canceled. This also seems to just be the beginning for Cox. Disney+ is currently developing a new Daredevil show that is expected to star Cox once again.

Here is the synopsis for Echo.

“Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”

Beyond that, THR’s report also points to The Weekly Planet podcast, which stated that Daredevil will be looking for a former ally in this show. Who is that ally, exactly? None other than Jessica Jones. This would bring another former Netflix star into the MCU, perhaps paving the way for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Punisher as well.

Echo will be directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie, with filming underway now. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre and Jason Gavin. Co-executive producers are Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King and Jennifer Booth. The cast also includes Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs, American Gods), Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, Reservation Dogs).

Echo is set to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
