The idea of a Spider-Gwen movie has for whatever reason been on everybody's mind and lips for a couple of weeks now.

Perhaps the web owes this overload of Spider-Gwen movie-related talks and reports to the curious interview Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper gave to MTV earlier this month. In which, as you might happen to know, a lot was spoken but nothing was revealed.

But, hey, it's enough to say "don't think about elephants" and make everyone think of an elephant. And so it goes with the Spider-Gwen movie.

However, chances are this is not just empty talk. Spider-Gwen is not just a part of the Spider-Man lore. She has a mythology of her own, as developed in the comics. So why wouldn't they make a Spider-Gwen movie?

In fact, here is precisely why they should make it!

1. Someone up there loves Spider-Gwen

As Movie Pilot reports, Isaac Perlmutter was the one supported the creation of a standalone Spider-Gwen comics universe. The name might not mean a lot to you, but it should.

He is, apparently, the only one whose opinion Kevin Feige factors in when making decisions for the developments of the MCU. Mr. Perlmutter is not a very public person, but he does have a word to say in how Marvel's comics are adapted for the big screen.

So, given it's to him that we owe the very creation of a Spider-Gwen lore, making a movie - or even developing a franchise from that - that pulls from it is not a farfetched idea. Of course, if he were to support this one too.

2. Another victory for the MCU

While it's not clear how Sony and Marvel will juggle the characters pertaining to Spider-Man's mythology in the aftermath of the Spidey summit, getting their hands on Spider-Gwen would be nothing but a gain for the MCU.

In fact, a way to root themselves even more in the Spider-Man lore and to bring more of it on the big screen. Granted, it's OK to have Spider-Man back, but it's great to aspire to having as much as possible of the Spider-Verse turned into movies by Marvel.

In so many words, a Spider-Gwen movie made by Marvel is a step forward. Perhaps the dealings will end up in a sort of no-man's-land, as it's the case with Quicksilver, shared by both Marvel and Fox, each studio creating its own version.

A Spider-Gwen movie could boost the Spider-Man franchise

It was suggested here that one possible way for the MCU to rehabilitate the Spider-Man franchise was to begin by developing a web slinger with no love interest.

Sony's Peter Parker either had Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) or Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) to carry a torch for. One way for Marvel to make him different would be to exactly cut romance out.

But that doesn't mean to leave the characters behind. Gwen Stacy in this case. Developing a story of her own in a Spider-Gwen movie would be an attempt to create a Spider-centric universe by first defining the pieces and then putting them together.

Kind of the same way they did with Iron-Man, Thor and Captain America which eventually converged in The Avengers.
