Sony’s Female Spider-Verse Will Open with Silver and Black

Sony surprised us earlier this year with the announcement that they’re moving forward with a film about Venom (with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock), which has since been scheduled for an October 5th 2018 release. The studio surprised us again by announcing that another project set in the same universe, Silver and Black, was in the works. That movie’s protagonists will be Silver Sable and Black Cat.

We’ve been wondering how these movies could work in the absence of Spider-Man, but Sony apparently had a back-up plan when it made the deal with Marvel over the rights to the web-crawler. While Spider-Man and other related characters went to Marvel, several others remained at Sony.

Most recently, we learned that Sony intends to build a team of female superheroes. Splash Report said that Silver Sable will assemble an all-female team, including Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Sara Ehret (Jackpot), and Cassie St. Commons (Dusk), as Silver and Black draws to a conclusion.

Splash Report added that Stunner will also join the team, although her alter-ego will be Charlotte Witter, rather than Angelina Brancale. This would allow for the establishment of a connection between the all-female Spider-Verse and mad scientist Doctor Octopus, the creator of both Charlotte and Angelina's superhero personas.

So Spider-Man/Peter Parker’s absence from this new shared universe won’t be that big a deal.

At this moment, we don't know when Silver and Black will be released. We doubt that anything is going to happen before the Venom movie comes out. This would allow Sony to build toward a confrontation between the all-female team and a previously established villain.
