Director Paul W.S. Anderson has been with the Resident Evil franchise for 15 years and 5 movies. It appears that the video game series will end with Resident Evil 6.

Whether you like it or think it’s horrible, there’s something about this movie that keeps us alert. For those who have seen all five of the movies, Anderson says that the last one will answer the questions that have been hanging over the franchise for years. The main character, Alice, will have revelations, and things that she didn’t know about herself due to memory loss will come to light. Truths about Umbrella Corp. will also be revealed.

I mean, the most important thing is…obviously it's a return, physically it's a return to Raccoon City and it's a journey back to where the franchise began, back to the hive. I think more importantly it's a journey of discovery for Milla's character, Alice. Because when we introduced her in the very first movies, you had a protagonist who had memory loss and that memory has never come back.

So you really have a woman who doesn't really know who she is at the center of the franchise and I think that's a question mark that has always been hanging over the franchise. This movie narrative-wise is not just a physical return to the beginning, when the movie began, it's kind of a journey for her to discover the truth about herself,” Anderson told Collider.

The movie will bring back some characters and will go back in time, but will have a fresh look, different from what we’ve seen. The director talks a lot about the technology used for resident Evil 6; he says that this time he won’t use 3-D cameras, but the movie will be 3-D.

Have you seen the trailer yet? It looks like Milla Jovovich’s character is ready to “kill every last one of them,” as she says while Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Paradise City is playing in the background.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is scheduled for release January 27, 2017.
