Director Reveals Punisher Release Date

Prior to the first season of Daredevil, there weren't that many fans who believed that there could be a successful Marvel/Netflix collaboration. This was especially true because the teasers and pics for that first season didn't show a superhero who was true to the comics.

Fast forward two years, and every Marvel Cinematic Universe show from Netflix is considered a major event (the biggest of them all, The Defenders, arrives this year). Basically, these TV shows aren't regular series; they’re actually 13 hour-long movies that are all released at once so one can binge-watch them in a single day.

This provides plenty of time for character development. We aren't talking just about the protagonists, but also about the villains (Vincent D’Onofrio's Kingpin and David Tennant's Kilgrave are the best Marvel has to offer).

Frank Castle (The Catholic Geeks)

The second season of Daredevil featured not only villains, but also an anti-hero: Frank Castle, a man on a mission to avenge his family. And, even more than any other character, Jon Bernthal's was crafted to perfection, instantly becoming a fan-favorite. By the end of the season, Frank Castle revealed who he really was: The Punisher.

This year will bring his first solo season on Netflix, as yesterday’s teaser-poster revealed (we knew that before, though). But we didn't know an exact release date for The Punisher.

Until now, that is!

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Dearbhla Walsh was asked if she ever traveled to the US to shoot a show. When she answered, she let the release date slip:

The Punisher (Collider)

One other time that hasn’t been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it’s not airing until November. I directed that in New York and edited in L.A., but this was my first directing experience in lovely Canada.

So this November will be bigger than we thought, with Thor: Ragnarok on the 3rd, Justice League on the 17th, and The Punisher anywhere in between!
