Power Rangers Reboot Kicks Off Filming!

Fans of the Power Rangers franchise have been waiting for a live-action big screen adaptation for almost two decades. The last one, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997), was a complete disaster that performed poorly at the box office. Critics bashed the movie, as well.

Since 2014, Saban and Lionsgate have been jointly developing a  reboot for the franchise. Earlier last year, Project Almanac director Dean Israelite was confirmed to be the venture's helm. Later, they confirmed RJ Cyler, Becky G, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin and Dacre Montgomery as its set of five Rangers. Last month, Elizabeth Banks joined as Rita Repulsa, and the movie's roster of main characters is full.

And now, Lionsgate has confirmed that production for the March 24, 2017 release has kicked off in Vancouver, Canada.

The studio has also announced the reboot's writers and producers. Kong: Skull Island writer John GatinsDracula Untold writers Burk Sharpless and Matt SazamaThor writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller; and Chronicle writer Max Landis have all worked on the movie's script. Power Rangers creator Haim Saban is producing, along with Brian Casentini, producer of the Power Rangers TV series, and Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, producers of the Twilight Saga.
