Avengers: Endgame Just Broke Yet Another Record

As Avengers: Endgame makes its way to home video, the blockbuster has already managed to break another record. It's sure to set various records for Blu-ray/DVD sales in the coming weeks, but for now, it can count itself as the most pre-ordered film ever on FandangoNOW. While that may not be as impressive as taking down Avatar at the box office, it's just a little extra cherry on top of an already thoroughly sweet sundae for Disney and Marvel Studios.

Per Fandango, the company's video-on-demand service FandangoNOW counts Avengers: Endgame as its top pre-order title of all time. The company also notes that a substantial number of those pre-orders were for the 4K edition of the film, which indicates that Marvel fans are happy to shell out a little extra to see the movie in Ultra HD. It also is a good sign for those who want to see more 4K content in the future.

"There's so much going on in "˜Endgame' that fans will want to own it at home, especially in the highest definition possible, so they can watch it again and again and catch all the things they missed," says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. "It's an emotional ride and visual feast, and with the new bonus features, "˜Endgame' promises to be the most significant home entertainment event of the year."

According to a FandangoNOW survey of more than 1,000 fans planning to watch Endgame at home:

·       97% own other Marvel movies.

·       89% plan to show Avengers: Endgame to friends, family, or significant others at home.

·       88% believe Avengers: Endgame ranks as a classic.

·       86% previously viewed Endgame at least once in theaters.

The home video market has been dwindling in recent years, as streaming has become far more accessible. To that point, Disney is getting ready to launch Disney+ later this year, which is where Avengers: Endgame will be made available to stream exclusively. Other, future MCU releases will also live on Disney+. While that may cut into future sales on platforms like FandangoNOW, it will certainly help Disney attract subscribers in the short term.

Directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo managed to exceed any and all expectations with their follow-up to last year's Avengers: Infinity War. With Endgame, they not only delivered a satisfying conclusion to a decade's worth of MCU storytelling, they also delivered a huge box office hit, topping $2.79 billion globally. That makes it the highest-grossing movie ever, overtaking James Cameron's Avatar, which held the record for nearly a decade.

Here's the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame

"Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers - Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner - must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos - the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe."

Did you order Avengers: Endgame on Digital HD? Or are you waiting for the Bluray/DVD or 4K Ultra HD physical release on August 13? Or are you waiting for the inevitable, massive MCU box set that we're guessing will be announced sooner rather than later? Sound off in the comments!
