Masters of the Universe: Terminator Salvation Director Might Helm It

Masters of the Universe reboot for Sony Pictures and Escape Artist is having a slow development, but another piece of the puzzle is about to move the project forward.

Based on the Mattel toy line (1982), the film is centered around Prince Adam who can transform into a warrior called He-Man. He-Man is the only salvation for a magical planet called Eternia, threatened by by technology and the evil Skeletor, the main antagonist in Masters of the Universe. Skeletor is a muscular blue humanoid wearing a purple hood over his yellow skull. Skeletor wants to conquer Castle Grayskull to find the ancient secrets that could lead him to take over the planet Eternia.

The story reached the big screen for the first and only time, in 1987 but it was not a good adaptation. Sony Pictures and Escape Artist have been trying to bring the story to life for some time, and it seems that the project is floundering. However, Sony and Escape Artist have initially hired a number of writers to pen the script. One of them was  Thor: The Dark World and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Christopher Yost.

Now Deadline reports that director McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator SalvationThis Means War) is in talks to take over the directorial duties for Masters of the Universe reboot. Currently, the draft is penned by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch (Predators), and McG will have to overlook it.

If the production team makes efforts and give their best, Masters of the Universe could have the potential of Transformers. But they have to move faster, as the reboot has been moving slowly for years.

What do you think about Masters of the Universe reboot? Do you want to see it on the big screen?
