Logan: Director Interested in X-23 Spin-Off

As Logan’s release date nears, new details have emerged about the movie’s production. Interviews, clips, and other promotional materials have been released to attract the fans’ attention, and they’ve been sold since the first trailer debuted. Early tracking (via CBM) says that Logan will make around $60 million during its opening weekend in the US. This is impressive, given the film’s rating and the poor performance of X-Men: Apocalypse.

Unfortunately, March will be a busy month, so Logan will have plenty of competition at the box office. Kong: Skull Island will be released one week later, and Beauty and the Beast opens two weeks after that. But Logan will be a hit, even if it doesn't manage to break the records that Deadpool smashed.

During a recent interview with We Got this Covered, director James Mangold said that he would work with Hugh Jackman again. Of course, he didn't mention a specific project, but we can assume that it won't be another Wolverine flick. However, Mangold did say that he’s interested in directing an X-23 spin-off:

I think Dafne Keen (X-23) is incredible in the film, and I would love to see another film about that character, and that's certainly something I'd be involved in. For me, that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family, and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would put, and the idea about Charles ailing.

This is far from a confirmation that an X-23 movie will follow. However, it does hint that this character might replace Wolverine in the X-Men Universe. Furthermore, given the director's commentary, we can also assume that Laura Kinney will appear in future X-Men movies.
