Jump Street-Men in Black Crossover Finally Happening?

23 Jump Street-Men in Black crossover reportedly happening

A plan for a Jump Street-Men in Black crossover was one of the biggest leaks from the late-2014 Sony Pictures hack. It was the Jump Street film series star Jonah Hill who wrote in an e-mail to Sony's then co-chairman Amy Pascal that such an attempt to merge the two franchises would be "clean and rad and powerful" (via Wall Street Journal). However, Hannah Minghella of Sony's Columbia Pictures wrote to Pascal that they didn't have a script at that moment.

Now, more than a year after the leak, Variety reports that the Jump Street-Men in Black crossover is indeed happening. Their sources claim that even though the movie has yet to get an official green light, the studio is aiming to kick off production this June. 22 Jump Street scribe Rodney Rotham was appointed to pen the script, which he has already done, according to the report. And the studio is happy enough to move ahead with the script.

A Sony representative had no comment on the report.

According to the report, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller - the directors of both Jump Street movies - won't be returning for the crossover movie. They would serve as producers, along with Neil Moritz, Walter Parkes, and Laurie MacDonald. Sony is considering James Bobin, director of The Muppets and Flight of the Conchords, to helm the Jump Street-Men in Black crossover. Early talks between the director and the studio have taken place already.

As revealed during the Sony hack, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones won't be returning for the action-comedy. Instead, the studio intends to reboot the franchise with younger-looking actors as Agent J and Agent K. However, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be returning as Greg Jenko and Morton Schmidt.
