Sony Orders Rewrite for Harbinger

Marvel and DC comic book adaptations rule today’s landscape, but other comic book movies have also been bankable at the box office. For example, 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service was an unexpected critical and financial success, and this led to the Kingsman: The Golden Circle sequel.

Valiant’s Bloodshot is another comic book universe that’s waiting for a big-screen adaptation. We know that Sony has planned to do this since Marvel and Disney sealed the Spider-Man deal. However, Sony has made quite a few changes to that plan since the announcement was made.

The original plan was for Bloodshot to be the first movie in the series, but Sony announced that Harbinger would lead it off. This would allow them to do some world-building before presenting the main superhero. The last time we heard anything about Harbinger was when Eric Heisserer (Arrival) finished the script.

Deadline recently reported that Sony hired Justin Tipping and Joshua Beirne-Golden (Kicks) to rewrite the script. Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious), Toby Jaffe (Total Recall), and Dinesh Shamdasani are set to produce.

To be noted, Eric Heisserer was also to pen the Bloodshot script. But, in light of the Harbinger rewrite, Sony could be looking to someone else to do that. After all, the Harbinger script is being rewritten because the studio wasn't satisfied with Heisserer's work.

At the moment, Sony still plans to release five movies in this new shared universe: Two movies each for Harbinger and Bloodshot, followed immediately by the Harbinger Wars crossover. Given the delays we’ve seen up until now, we can’t say how soon the studio will move ahead with any of these adaptations.
