Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Previous Guardians Revealed

Besides the crazy superhero action, all comic book movie shared universes have something in common, and that’s the Easter-Eggs the creative teams drop all over the place. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 is no exception. With the release date closing in, it’s no wonder that so many have been revealed by the movie’s director, actors, and really anybody involved in making the film.

Sylvester Stallone’s Starhawk role can be seen as one of the movie’s Easter-Eggs. In the comics, Starhawk was an original Guardians of the Galaxy member, along with Yondu (who was only recently made a Guardian in the MCU).

But James Gunn has other surprises for us. One of the credit scenes reveals that film features the original Guardians team, thus expanding the shared universe even further. The members include Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames) and the female Starhawk, Aleta Ogrod (Michelle Yeoh), along with Krugarr and Mainframe (an alternate version of Vision).

The Guardians (CBR)

Kevin Feige said that all of this is a product of James Gunn's mind, and that Yondu was a Guardian long before he met Star-Lord:

They're definitely the original Guardians. That was the fun of it, and when James had the idea to do more with the Yondu character – who is also an original Guardian – there was the notion that he had a team once, like Peter does now. That'd be fun to see them. And [Ving Rhames] is definitely Charlie-27. Where we see them in the future, time will tell (via CBR).

Does this mean that we’ll see these characters again in the movies? It’s a possibility…

Possible future line-up (Movie Web)

However, even if that doesn’t happen, and these roles aren't expanded, it all falls in line with what we knew before: The Guardians roster changed before we actually met the heroes, and it will change again after Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
