Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Open Another Long MCU Story

As the end of the first Avengers movie teased, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading toward an all-out war against Thanos. Five years later, we’re closer than ever to this universe-changing event, with Avengers: Infinity War set to be released on May 4, 2018. But what will happen after that?

After a couple more solo movies, the 22 movies of the first three MCU phases will come to an end with the untitled Avengers 4 (May 3, 2019). Both Kevin Feige and James Gunn (whose creative role will expand as the shared universe does) have teased that the MCU will move toward even greater cosmic adventures.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will be the first movie released after Avengers 4, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will set the course for this new MCU, as Gunn tweeted in response to those who believe that the end of Thanos' quest will also end the MCU as a whole:

What do we know about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? By the time its 2020 release date rolls around, the Guardians will have met the Avengers and played a role in the (presumed) defeat of Thanos. And we do know that Adam Warlock will be introduced in this movie.

It's everybody's guess what long story will begin with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What are your thoughts on what’s going to follow the quest for the Infinity Stones and the clash with the most dangerous MCU villain to date?
