Green Lantern: Common is Interested in Playing John Stewart

Back when Green Lantern Corps was announced, quite a few actors campaigned for the role of John Stewart, most notably Tyrese Gibson (The Fast and the Furious). On the other hand, fans suggested quite a few actors for the role, including Common.

In 2009, the rapper-turned-actor was cast as the same character in the failed Justice League Mortal.

After that, Common was cast in an unspecified role in Suicide Squad. Many believed that he’d play the villainous Tattooed Man from the comics, who is usually an enemy of the Green Lantern. But he wound up as Monster T, a depowered version of Tattooed Man. Not only that, he had a simple cameo, which ended abruptly when he was shot by the Joker.

So now, while doing the press for John Wick: Chapter 2, Common was asked again about this role. His response:

No, I haven’t spoken to DC. John Stewart, the character, is amazing. When I had the opportunity of potentially being John Stewart, when we were working, I learned how he was part of the Green Lantern Corps and all that he was doing. He was kind of community-driven so I felt like, “Oh, man, I love this character.”  He used his mind to do a lot of things so I connected with him. I just love the character, but I don’t know, I haven’t talked to DC about it but, you know, hey! Yeah, I would love [to]. That would be an honor to play John Stewart (via CBM).

Common’s next role is opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 2, which arrives on the 10th of February.
