Gotham Season 2 – We will be introduced to Azrael

Even if Fox’s TV series Gotham is not honoring its inspirational source, as much as it should, the series stands on its own, with a different story in a different time. It's not a Batman story, that has been established, but even so it continues, and Season 2 seems to be better than the first one.

The fifth episode from Gotham Season 2 came with interesting revelations that might lead to further surprises. It seems that the Galavan family belongs to the Dumas Line.

Gotham Season 2

The city of Batman, Gotham

And the Order of St. Dumas is going to be part of the revenge plan against Gotham, not only against the city but against the Wayne family most of all.

The Order of St. Dumas is always followed by the members of the splinter, and this means Azrael is not far from making an appearance, as the the Order of St. Dumas chronicle is in progress.

Gotham Season 2

Theo Galavan is the first antagonist in Gotham Season 2. More to follow!

In fact, Gotham EP John Stephens talked to ComicBook and revealed what we actually expect:

“We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season. And yes, we wouldn't be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching."

What form will Azrael take?

Gotham Season 2

Will Azrael follow the Order and what form will take?

So Azrael will show up in Gotham Season 2 but what will it be? A singular character, a group of agents? First that comes to mind is Jean-Paul Valley, a former apprentice of Batman who took over for him when he was injured in a confrontation with Bane. But we have a hint to what form Azrael will take. In the latest episode from Gotham Season 2, the Order priest told Theo Galavan that the big day is coming and their allies are on their way:

"The day of redemption is at hand. Our brothers are crossing the ocean now, warriors unlike this city has ever known."

Does this mean that Azrael will take the form of a collective rather than a singular character? It seems so, and that would be closer to what the comic books follow when it comes to the Order: groups of soldiers who are trained to become assassins.
