Gambit May Have Found Its Director!

UPDATE – Another more recent report suggests that there are two more directors considered for Gambit! Check out the details in the bottom segment of this post.

Gambit is the last one among the three X-Men Universe movies that are scheduled to release in 2016. We know Channing Tatum is set to play the titular superhero and it's an ORIGIN STORY. Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was confirmed to helm the October 7, 2016 release but he dropped himself out of it eventually, citing SCHEDULE CONFLICTS as the reason.

Well, 20th Century Fox recently delivered a disastrous superhero flick (something very rare in recent times) like Fant4stic. So, not having a director appointed yet for a superhero movie of theirs, which is less than a year away from release, doesn't sound good at all!

But there's something we can offer you to make you feel a bit less disappointed on the studio if you are a diehard Gambit fan! They might have found a decent director to helm the movie!

Edge of Tomorrow Director Eyed To Direct Gambit!

Doug Liman

Doug Liman, director of movies like Swingers, The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, is being eyed to helm the Fox venture that is about to kick off its filming this fall in New Orleans. That is what veteran Daily Variety correspondent Mike Fleming Jr. shared in an occasional column of Deadline. Here's what he said:

"So while recent Hollywood chatter has Doug Liman on an inside track to direct Channing Tatum in Gambit, there's also talk that Liman and Tom Cruise might do a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow.

Following Fleming's statement, The Wrap's Jeff Sneider used his Twitter account to verify the connection between Doug Liman and Gambit. According to him, it is the lead actor (and also one of the producers) Channing Tatum who wants the director to be hired for the movie. Here's the tweet for you!

Joe Cornish and Shane Black Considered Too!

According to Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood, Doug Liman isn't the only director considered for Gambit by Fox - they are eying two other directors as well. Attack the Block director Joe Cornish and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black are those two names alongside that of Liman's to have been shortlisted by the studio.
