Fox Confirms X-Men TV Series Plans!

On April, 2014, the writer of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Simon Kinberg, expressed his thought to Collider that "˜it makes sense' to tell some of the stories from X-Men franchise on television. Later that year, Bleeding Cool came up with the news that X-Men television series was something Fox had really been planning. However, Fox didn't open up their mouths on the matter.

Recently, Chairmen of Fox Entertainment Gary Newman and Dana Walden announced that they've been planning to perk up popular TV series The X-Files and 24. Now, Newman confirms to TV Insider their plans for bringing into live another series on television, and that based on the comic book superheroes X-Men!

Why Are They Interested?

Comic book television ventures in recent times have mostly been successful. Fox do have the sample of success on their television with DC Comics and Warner Bros Television venture Gotham. X-Men franchise has a good reputation on big-screen with the seven movies bagging more than a billion dollars in total. These obviously contribute to a great extent to their interest in developing a television adaptation of the franchise.

Are There Any Barriers?

Though big-screen rights of X-Men characters belong to 20th Century Fox, Marvel Comics still holds the rights of any small-screen adaptation on the mutants. So, Fox Entertainment will definitely have to receive a green signal from Marvel before they can move ahead in making a live-action TV series. However, Newman claims that negotiations are ongoing and they are "˜cautiously optimistic' as they had "˜a good meeting' with Marvel.

When That Might Air On TV?

With the deal still not confirmed and also the fact that Fox doesn't have a firm concept or a writer, an X-Men television series might not be air very soon. "This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative" says the boss of Fox Entertainment. He seems to be planning to get the television adaptation ready within the 2016-17 TV season.
