Director Thanks Fans As Suicide Squad Passes $600 Million Worldwide!

David Ayer has thanked fans for making Suicide Squad a success!

Critics may have hated Suicide Squad with a purple passion, but that means nothing to the fans, at least to the majority. After breaking several records for an August release in its opening weekend, and staying at the top of the box office for three consecutive weekends, the movie has apparently crossed the $600 million mark globally.

I use the word "apparently" because there is a bit of confusion about the numbers. According to Box Office Mojo, Suicide Squad has earned around $269 million in North America and $313 million from the international box office. So, its worldwide gross stands at a little more than $582 million.

However, director David Ayer has already announced via his official Twitter account that his August 5 release has joined the $600 million club. In the tweet, he thanks fans for making Suicide Squad a success. You can check out his tweet below!

Reaching that $600 million worldwide mark is something that Warner Bros. can be very happy with, considering the poor reviews the movie received and the fact that it hasn't released in China, the second biggest market for Hollywood movies. So, Ayer's calling it "a success" does make sense.

In a recent post, Forbes points out that Suicide Squad is now officially "leggier" at the domestic box office than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While the Zack Snyder movie couldn't double its opening weekend by the end of its domestic run, the David Ayer flick has already managed to do it.

The outlet estimates that the movie will end its domestic run with something around the $300 million mark and may even prove to be as leggy as Captain America: Civil War!

However, it doesn't appear that Suicide Squad will stay at the top for a fourth weekend in a row, as Fede Alvarez's Don't Breathe is looking good to steal it. According to Deadline, while the R-rated horror flick is expected to bag something between $11.5 million to $14 million in its opening weekend, the DC Extended Universe installment is likely to earn $10-11 million this weekend to secure the second spot at the box office.
