Director Talks Inhumans and Studio's Passion for the Project

Even if it was at first announced as a big screen movie, Inhumans ended up being a TV show event that will debut in IMAX and then be aired on ABC. However, despite its colossal budget (with reports placing it between $100 million and $200 million for 8 episodes), Inhumans didn't manage to impress the audiences with its first trailer, the fans bashing the poor design of the characters as well as the subpar special effects.

Of course, this is still work in progress, as the most recent promo revealed, in which Medusa's hair seems to have been fixed. But given the release date of the first two episodes (1st of September), this isn't really a good sign. Check out the latest promo below!

During an interview with Cnet, director Roel Reiné (who helmed the first two episodes of Inhumans) talked about Marvel's decision to hire him and said that his background (of low-budget action movies) made him perfect for the role.

Medusa (CBM)

I think they liked me for the job because I was able with my action movies to shoot in a very short time, or with very low budgets, action that looks like a big-budget movie. The schedule was super-tight. I had TV schedule time to shoot it with IMAX cameras, 20 days to shoot two episodes. It's nerve-wracking but I come from a low-budget film world, so 20 days for me is luxury.

Of course, you can take what you want from here - but there is a clear discrepancy between the reported budget and what the director says.

Roel Reiné also stated that he had no problem working with Marvel on the two episodes, saying that 9 out of 10 times when he proposed something was accepted by the Marvel execs present on the set. The director also praised the passion the studio has for the shared universe, in which Inhumans is now included:

There was always a Marvel executive around me, just to make sure that whatever I did, or whatever we did together, would tie in with other characters in other universes, in other comics, in other series or movies. They're very protective. These people are very passionate about their product and about characters and about doing the best version of everything. It was very collaborative. "¦ Nine out of ten times they liked what I pitched — even radical things.”

The first couple of reviews for Marvel's Inhumans pilot are in!
