Deadpool is Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at WGA

After the abysmal X-Men Origins: Wolverine, who would have believed that Deadpool could rise from the ashes to become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time? Well, Ryan Reynolds believed it, even if his past comic book movie projects didn't pay off at all (he starred in bombs such as Green Lantern, Blade Trinity, and RIPD). The fans had a blast before the actual movie was released (Deadpool had the best marketing team ever), during its run (because the movie was all sorts of kick-ass), and afterwards (again, thanks to the marketing team).

And it isn't over just yet. Even though Tim Miller left the project over creative differences with the star, Deadpool 2 has already been announced! And the writers who penned the script for the first movie, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (they also penned Zombieland) are returning.

Sticking with this project and these writers for so long has paid off, and not just at the box office. So, even though Ryan Reynolds had to dig into his own wallet for the writers to be present during the shooting, Deadpool has been nominated for a Writers Guild Award in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. And this says something about the script, considering the other movies nominated (Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, and Nocturnal Animals).

The fans are so delighted that they’re even talking about potential Academy Award nominations (although this seems a bit too much, as far as we’re concerned).

Anyway, Deadpool was also nominated for two Golden Globes, in the Best Musical/Comedy and Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy categories. Again, who would have thought that Deadpool, an R-rated superhero movie released in February (the month where movies go to die), would make history in this way?
