David Harbour Reveals Hellboy Shooting Date

Despite repeated fan requests for something else altogether, a Hellboy reboot starring David Harbour of Stranger Things was announced early last month. The announcement also revealed the film’s full title (Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen) and the director’s name (Neil Marshall of The Descent and Dog Soldiers). Furthermore, unlike the Guillermo del Toro films, the reboot will be rated R.

Yesterday, we saw David Harbour trying out his new Right Hand of Doom, so it looks as though the movie could start shooting anytime now.

During an interview with The Wrap, the director said that filming will start this September, which would be earlier than anyone expected. He then added, “I hope.” If everything goes as smoothly as possible, Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen could see a 2018 release date, as previously rumored.

During the same interview, the Harbour also said that this new take on the character is much darker than in the previous films. He praised both the director (who can bring both action and horror) and the script (penned by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola).

It's good. It's a whole new thing. I'd always been a fan of the comics, and there's a darker tone to it, and I think in the climate we have now there's kind of a darker"¦a desire for more of that. The script is good, and this guy Neil Marshall is directing who's really good, and the aesthetic is great.
