Darren Aronofsky Would Helm a Superman Flick

Darren Aronofsky is best known for his movies Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, but he doesn’t limit himself to making movies with psychological – and sometimes controversial – themes. There have even been times when he’s been ready to try his hand at making mainstream movies. Specifically, he considered making comic book movies.

Before Christopher Nolan was hired to direct Batman Begins, Aronofsky was set to direct a Batman: Year One adaptation. He was also a frontrunner to direct The Wolverine, and Warner Bros. had their eye on him for their Man of Steel reboot.

Recently, Aronofsky reiterated that he was still interested in directing a Superman movie. As a side note, Zack Snyder was reportedly chosen to helm Man of Steel because he had experience with big-budget flicks.

But there’s a twist: Aronofsky also said that the DCEU was reinventing Superman, and he’d wait until that process is complete:

A lot of the great superhero titles are done. People have used them up. So now it's characters that aren't as interesting. But you never know. I mean, Superman would always be interesting. But they're already deep into reinventing him, so that's not going to happen for a long time (via Screen Rant).

He doesn't really have to wait until the end of the DCEU. Warner Bros. is planning to adapt some of the Elseworlds stories into movies that have nothing to do with the DC Extended Universe, and we’ve learned there have been talks about adapting Superman: Red Son.

So who knows? But we'd be very excited to see Darren Aronofsky direct Man of Steel 2!
