Ever since the DC Extended Universe revealed a timeline showing a Green Lantern reboot that’s scheduled for 2020 release, Tyrese Gibson has been campaigning hard for the role. Now that the movie's title is changed to Green Lantern Corps and it will feature more than one Lantern, the chances of Tyrese being cast as John Stewart cannot be ignored. He confirmed last summer that he's had meetings with Warner Bros about the matter.
But now, it seems like he's not the only one interested in playing John Stewart. D.B. Woodside, the actor who plays Amenadiel in Lucifer, has expressed his desire to put on the power ring! In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, the actor was asked about his Green Lantern t-shirt during last year's San Diego Comic Con International. Here's how he responded:
The whole series and the characters have always been one of my favorites. I grew up as a comic-book guy, so I love these characters. We’re living in a superhero bubble right now that I am hoping will never burst. And, maybe I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt because I’m trying to get into the minds over at DC as they are looking for their Green Lantern.
Woodside stated that it was his "cheeky way" of trying to influence the studio! He added:
That’s why I was going with the Green Lantern t-shirt and trying to let people know I am very interested in that world. I would love to play Green Lantern.
Actually, Woodside isn't interested in Green Lantern alone!

John Stewart isn't the only superhero D.B. Woodside is eager to play. He loves the genre as a whole, and would be happy to play any other Marvel or DC superhero. But, unfortunately for him, the 46-year-old actor hasn't auditioned for a single superhero role to date. Woodside said:
There are so many other fascinating characters out there in the DC Universe, as well as Marvel. I would relish the opportunity to play one of those guys.
Whichever actors play the Green Lanterns for the DC Extended Universe, names are likely to be announced within this year. This is because Geoff Jones confirmed a few weeks back that the Green Lantern Corps would be featured in the Justice League movies. And the two-part movies will kick off filming next month.
