Captain America: Civil War - Who Is a Double Agent?

Next year, Captain America: Civil War will pit one part of the Avengers against another. The teams have already been revealed, with a clear advantage for Iron Man's side - they do have Vision after all, whereas Captain America's team has no actual heavy hitter.

But there is something which might have skipped anybody's mind - there are spies among the Captain America: Civil War teams. And we are not talking about those who are actual spies (such as Black Widow), but about double agents infiltrated in the teams.

So who might these be?

Hawkeye

Captain America's team

Captain America’s team

Hawkeye is the least likely to betray his teammates in Captain America: Civil War. As everybody knows, he is against the Accords/Registration Act simply because he has a family to protect.

And he has hidden his family very well while working for SHIELD, because there was mutual trust between him and Nick Fury. However, who is to say that the council who will watch over the Avengers is trustworthy?

Hawkeye has no reason to betray Captain America for Iron Man.

Of course, we should take into account his friendship with Black Widow - which makes us wonder: what exactly is the subtext of, "Are we still gonna be friends after this?" "Depends on how hard you hit me.

Vision

Iron Man's team

Iron Man’s team

Vision may be considered a definitive ally of Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War, simply because it is an evolved JARVIS. A sentient android, we cannot say that he necessarily needs reasons in order to pick a side.

However, is it really so? As seen in Age of Ultron, Vision is one the side of life - and he will be involved in a war/clash which will most likely result in human casualties. And this isn't all, sine these aren't normal humans, but humans who have the potential of saving lives against bigger threats.

The point is that he may not be a double agent - instead, he may just simply renounce his allegiance to Iron Man and be neutral during Captain America: Civil War.

Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier

The Winter Soldier is one of Steve Roger's closest friends - or, at least, he used to be. And now is on his pal's side during Captain America: Civil War. We can expect for him to put his life on the line for his friend, who never gave up on him.

However, there is this interesting rumor which talks about Crossbones' roles in the movie. According to this rumor, the whole African market incident, which makes the Accords happen, is all about the Winter Soldier. HYDRA hasn't given up on their assassin and now they want it back.

So what if they actually succeed and plant him as a double agent on Captain America's team? After all, the whole Superhuman Registration Act suits HYDRA's interests, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Black Panther

Black Panther

Before the teams were revealed, everybody believed that Black Panther will be neutral in Captain America: Civil War. And for good reason, since Kevin Feige revealed that. But now it is pretty clear that the Wakandan king (or prince, we don't know yet) has chosen a side. He should be in the favor of the Accords, because in this way someone will be held accountable if disasters such as the one in Sokovia.

However, we should also keep in mind that he may as well be anti-registration, since he is representing a secluded and yet very advanced country. Wakanda has always been against the interference of outsiders, so why should it report to a world's council? The safest bet would be that Black Panther will choose a side in Captain America: Civil War, but just for as long as it suits his purposes.

And then he will revert back to neutrality.

What are these purposes of his? We should wait and see - but we can bet that they have something to do with the stolen vibranium from which Vision was built"¦

Falcon

Falcon

Falcon

Pretty much like Hawkeye, Falcon has no clear reason for being a double agent during Captain America: Civil War. We don't know about Redwing, though, since it is clearly a drone.

And since Iron Man is all about technology"¦

War Machine

Represent

He is, basically, Iron Man's Falcon, with no clear reason whatsoever to betray is old friend.

Agent 13

Sharon Carter

Sharon Carter

This is where things get interesting - Agent 13 is a new addition to the roster, if we can call this an addition. She had a very minor role, if we may say so, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when she gained Steve Roger's trust. She now appears to be on Cap's side.

But is she really? We do know that HYDRA has quite the convoluted plans for taking over the world, so she might as well be an inactivated double agent. She has, after all, killed Captain America in the comic books.

And this will be a blow in MCU's Captain America: Civil War, since it is rumored that Steve Rogers will have a romantic relationship with her. It makes a whole lot of sense for her to be the double agent, since Marvel and Disney haven't been keen on changing any of the major characters thus far, making them as solid and as reliable as possible.

Black Widow

Black Widow

Black Widow

She is the definitive spy and double agent of the MCU - when she was introduced in Iron Man 2, she was sent by Nick Fury to infiltrate Tony Stark's group. Then, during the Winter Soldier events, she actually gave the impression that she got close to Steve Rogers, only to be revealed in Age of Ultron that she was actually romantically connected to Bruce Banner.

So what gives? Is Iron Man so silly in order to believe that she is on his side? Leaving her past aside, it is pretty hard to believe that she will ruin her friendship with Hawkeye for someone she doesn't really trust. She also has all the reasons to be against the registration, given her past as an assassin.

So is Black Widow actually on Iron Man's team during Captain America: Civil War? Or is it all just an act?

And the best thing about this, if it proves to be true, is if Tony Stark realizes that she is indeed a double agent and uses this to his advantage.

The missing heroes of Captain America: Civil War

Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man

Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man

They are Ant-Man (who clearly hates Stark) and Scarlet Witch (who also hates Tony Stark). We guess we can count them out of this discussion. If they will end up on Steve Roger's team during Captain America: Civil War there will be no surprise and there is no reason to believe that they will be double agents.
