Marvel has recently announced that Ryan Coogler is going to direct Black Panther, T’Challa’s solo superhero flick. Some of us are excited about the news as the young director has begun his career on high notes. Coogler was at the helm of the indie drama Fruitvale Station and he also directed Rocky franchise Creed. He was supposed to direct Creed 2 as well, but since Black Panther‘s production laps over, Coogler had to gave up on it.
The 29-year-old filmmaker expressed his feelings about the upcoming Marvel comic book movie.
“I'm excited. I grew very into pop culture, very into comic books, so it's something that is just as personal to me as the last couple of films I was able to make. I feel really fortunate to be able to work on something I'm this passionate about again.” (HeyUGuys)

Talking to Screenrant some time ago, Ryan Coogler pointed out the cultural approach of the movie, regarding Black Panther is going to be the first Marvel production to center a black superhero.
“I think that there is a potential for a greater truth when a filmmaker comes from a particular culture that they're dealing with. That's not to say that a filmmaker can't work outside his or her cultural space. But I do believe that the opportunity for the film to have more nuance will come when you looking at filmmakers that bring a little bit of that from their personal experience.” (via Cinemablend)

King of Wakanda's first solo flick is slated to debut on the big screen February 16, 2018.
